New Delhi, October 25:
The last decade has been full of innovations and a record number of technological revolutions have hit the market with a bang. Among all, Apple has remained the most noticeable as it brought with its rise to supremacy, the ultimate touchpads and phones ever known to mankind.
ipads have created a mad rush in the market with more than 1million sold so far; and the demand is still increasing. iphones too have been a megahit with a sales record of more than 50million including all four versions of the phone. These two revolutionary gadgets have been in the news so much so that there is no need to write any more about them. ipad, for that matter has been so successful that it reached the 1million sales mark twice as fast as iphone. There have been many problems for Apple along the way, but it has handled them all very professionally.
The buzz about new technology cannot die away so fast and thus something new keeps popping up here and there all the time. When mobile phones were first introduced, the study and research carried out deduced that heavy usage of mobile phones would increase cancer threat where the user was at high risk of developing severe brain tumors.
The ipad success story also has a twist to it now. Several dailies have reported that Peter Collignon, a specialist in infectious diseases at the Australian National University, has found a higher risk of transmitting pathogens from glass surfaces like on iPads to human skin following a research. Glass surfaces can effectively transfer pathogens to human skin. This risk is lowered while using glasses, cups and other cutlery because they are often washed well after every use.
Owning an ipad of your own and maintaining hygiene would be a good idea. But think about the huge number of people using the ipads displayed at Apple outlets and other stores. There are scores of people using them daily. Every single touch transmits germs to the glass surface of the touchpad. Peter said, “The germs we transmit via our hands can frequently have germs that can cause anything from flu to multi-drug resistant diseases.” When a few Apple pads were swabbed during an investigation, two of them contained harmful pathogens.
Thus, the point here is that it is not just glass or ipads we are talking about. This would be a general deduction from the way infections are caused and spread that one should be careful while looking around to buy anything. Hygiene is a must to avoid the spread of diseases and if all of us put in the effort, we would be able to avoid many hazardous diseases. We are well aware that “Prevention is better than cure”, isn’t it?
