The Deathly Hallows
An excellent prelude to the last movie in the Potter series

Divyadarshini Patel
New Delhi, November 22:

This weekend, I saw the latest in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I. I really admire J.K. Rowling for the way she created an enigmatic world of magic and gave gen Y a new fantasy hero. After reading all her books and watching the potter movies and waiting for the last movie to be released in July next year, the one thing I can say here that this will be the end of an epic magical tale ever told or reeled.

The Deathly Hallows: Part I’s preview had 15.1 million page views recorded on youtube alone! So, the movie definitely went in for a grand opening and the director ensured this time that the movie was as close to the book as possible and equally entertaining. The cast remained the same; thus, no disappointments from that end. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as usual, play Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. The previous movie, The Half Blood Prince had not been hailed well by the audience as it clearly lacked the potential that other Harry potter movies had in them. But this movie certainly brought with a breath of fresh air; the only problem – the air is dark and gloomy, shattering all hopes of dismissing Voldemort forever.

Dumbledore’s demise had left Harry miserable but he did realize his duty towards the well-being of the world; he set out to destroy the horcruxes, which would in turn, destroy Voldemort’s immortality. Ron and Hermione accompany Harry on the search, facing difficulty at each step. What follows is a stunning suspense, some invigorating action sequences and a chivalrous display of courage which deliver a spectacular magical enchantment.

There are very few dull moments in the whole movie thanks to some good direction coming in from David Yates. The usage of special effects has been done beautifully and it is certainly a pity that Warner Brothers were not able to release this movie in 3D! There are many instances during the ongoing action in the movie where you can see that the scenes were meant for the 3D screen… But there is no reason to lament this fact as the 2D version was equally enthralling.

Hogwarts was missing entirely this time and yes, I missed it! I missed the train journey the students used to take along the picturesque countryside; I missed the small tricks played by the twin Weasleys. I do not adore Severus Snape, but a onetime appearance on screen with a single dialogue did not do justice to the character who killed the mighty Dumbledore. Moving ahead from the missing parts, well, the kids have grown up!! Sweet adolescence… Even when the world has been engulfed in one dark shadow, romance and wedding bells find some space in the movie.

Coming to “The Deathly Hallows”, this sub plot within the main plot of the movie was so well illustrated! The animation was exactly how it needed to be; I don’t think there could have been a better version of it. The movie does not reach climax as it is just a prelude for the final fight between Harry and Voldemort but its end is worthy of the seven-month wait that is to follow. With The Deatly Hallows: Part II eagerly awaited, I am expecting the grandest of the grand finale ever…
