Scholarships to students
The scholarship scheme offered by Lovely Professional University, as a part of the initiative to reward the bright, brilliant and the deserving, met with a good response from students across the country. The maiden version of scholarship has seen nearly 1,500 applicants availing benefit of the scheme. With more than 100 courses being put in the domain of scholarship, from graduate level to postgraduate and MPhil, students have been increasingly enthusiastic to leverage in on the reward scheme.
Students with marks lying in the bracket of 70 per centage and above, are eligible to avail the scholarship benefits. Ashok Mittal, chancellor, LPU, said: "The scholarship programme is an initiative on our part to encourage students to study and provide the basic monetary assistance to them. We believe in the vast hidden talent of our country, knowing it well that financial constraints retard its realisation. With the scholarship drive, we are trying to put in place a system, wherein the obstruction to good education for want of money, should become a thing of past."
Animation and visual effects course
A three-year degree in animation and visual effects by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in partnership with Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) is provided for students interested in animation and visual effects. The curriculum is stewarded by a Joint Coordination Committee of IGNOU and
MAAC. In addition to detailed technical and creative skills, the curriculum will impart soft skills, management course training and an orientation to student on an actual project of creation of content. IGNOU will implement norms for examinations, assessments and university standards. The duration is three years and the eligibility is10+2 or equivalent or BPP from IGNOU(in case the applicant has not done 10+2).
International Youth Day celebrated
MM University celebrated International Youth Day with great fervor. The theme for this year Youth is ‘Sustainability: Our Challenge Our Future'. The programme started with the lamp lighting ceremony and the inaugural speech by vice chancellor Dr SG Damle. He said that MM University has always thought of community service before its own personal motives and shall continue to organize such programmes that benefit the society. The function was organised by the department of community medicine, included talks by experts from various departments like dermatology, microbiology, surgery and community medicine. Students were also motivated to participate in open discussion forums, quiz competitions, poster competitions, and other cultural events for a better understanding of the issue.
Engineering courses in plastic technology
There will be four new courses in plastic technology that will be offered from this academic year in Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology in Chennai.
These courses will be BTech and MTech in plastics technology, MTech in CAD/CAM in plastics technology and PhD in polymer technology.
