SAARC essay-writing competition for under 23

The SAARC Energy Centre has initiated the Youth Energy Award, wherein youngsters are invited to participate in an annual essay-writing competition. The theme for the year 2008 is ‘Energy Cooperation is Key to Economic Development in SAARC Region’.

Prizes
First prize: US$ 1000
Second prize: US$ 500
Third prize: US $ 300
Prizes will be given at a SAARC event related to energy. Their travel and boarding and lodging costs will be borne by the Saarc Energy Centre.

Eligibility
Candidates from SAARC member countries, less than 23 years of age on 31st December, 2008 and pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degree programmes can apply.

How to participate
• Candidates have to write the essay in not more than 750 words on an A-4 size page, with a spacing of 1/ ½ lines. The essay should be typed, not hand-written. The following things should be included:
• The references and information about where the data is sourced from.
• Reasonable data.

The essay should be accompanied by:
• PDF or scanned copy of hard print of author’s bio-data including contact details (postal and email address and phone number).
• Certified copies of proof of age, University registration and a certificate from the concerned institutional head (principal or head of the faculty) that essay is actually written by the participants.

Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview.
